Review: “Harley Quinn- Hot in the City”

Harley Quinn, Vol. 1: Hot in the CityHarley Quinn, Vol. 1: Hot in the City by Amanda Conner
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A must-read for any fan of Harley Quinn, and for those who want to know more about the character. This is the first collection of “The New 52” comic series, so each “chapter” is fast paced and sometimes it felt like they weren’t connected to each other. However, the anthology is a fun and humourous read. There are also covers at the end of the book that are great additional features.

Other than the cover designs at the end and one scene, there isn’t a lot of emphasis on Harley and the Joker’s relationship. There are a few hints to the relationship she has with Poison Ivy, which is great to see if you prefer those two together anyway.

The best part, in my opinion, was the beginning. She was drawn in a variety of styles and broke the fourth wall. I love Harley because she’s a versatile character with an always changing appearance, and the first comic in this anthology showed exactly that.
