Hey, look at that! I actually did something based on an idea I found on Pinterest! I’ve been meaning to post this for awhile, but with other writing projects and well, life itself, it wasn’t a high priority. I will admit that this definitely did not take me 30 days to do, and that these photos are out of order. Some are a little bit outdated as well.
So why am I posting this now instead of doing a new one? First of all, taking 30 separate pictures with a different theme is time consuming. Likewise with photo essays. I’m sure anyone who has ever had to do one for a school project can vouch for me.
All of these were shot approximately between March 26 and April 30 of 2016. I used my trusty Canon PowerShot A2200 for all of these pictures. I found the challenge on Pinterest via Shelley Jerman
Anything I want – A message that I stand by. You need to show love for your friends, family, significant others, job, and yourself. It’s what gets us through the hardest times in life, and makes the best ones even better.
Something that makes me happy- Storytelling. It is my purpose in life, and nothing makes me happier at the end of the day than knowing I told another story. This is from an outline of a story I’ve been working on since undergrad. Don’t know if it will be the next YA fantasy novel that everyone loves yet, but we’ll see.
Something I collect- Yes, I am a 20-something woman with dignity and a pikachu collection. Anyone who knows me at all knows I love Pokemon, with Pikachu being my favourite. Some of these I’ve had back when Pokemon was only one generation! Pikachu was always one of my favourites, and some of my good friends and close family members think of me when they see anything pikachu related.
Something that stresses me out- An uncertainty of my future. All I know is that this year, I am graduating college, freelancing and watching my cousin get married. That’s it. Everything else, I don’t know yet. Having no clue how the first chapter of my new book will begin scares me, but excites me at the same time.
A cup I drank from- It’s an old one of my dad’s. He loves this team. Growing up, I knew he would have to see this team every time they played the Hamilton Tiger Cats, another favourite of his.
Someone who inspires me-I know I’m not the only one who says this, but I have to say J.K. Rowling. Every writer has gone through some form of rejection in his or her life, and the brain behind “Harry Potter” is no exception. Ms. Rowling got her pitch turned down about 12 times before becoming a best-selling author. If that doesn’t give me hope that my novel will one day take off, I don’t know what will.
My Phone- Say what you want about iPhones, but this one’s been pretty trusty. I’ve had it for four years, and while the case is falling apart and the screen is damaged, it still gets the job done. I rely on this constantly for interviews and for showing that I’m live on location for social media. When it comes to technology, I feel like some of us focus too much on aesthetics, when all we need is something that works. No need for fancy upgrades if you don’t need it!
What I had for lunch- I know, I know, a picture of what I ate. It was in the challenge, don’t judge me. Nothing too fancy. Just some leftover salad and potatoes with cottage cheese. Nothing I would normally have together, but still delicious.
My shoes-These have seen better days. However, if you still own the shoes you’ve worn since prom, they would start to look like this too. I have worn them to every formal occasion since then. I’ve gone shoe shopping, but nothing really impresses me. They remind me of something a princess would wear, but don’t let their delicate look fool you, they hurt your feet after wearing them for hours.
Something I use in my hair- If it’s anything you should learn from this picture, it’s that shampoo bars melt really easily. I’m one of those awful people who washes their hair every day, so a sensitive shampoo like this is great for it.
My pet-My beautiful golden retriever in the middle of singing. My family’s had three goldens, and he’s the only one who can sing along to some songs. His favourite is “Let it Go”
A sneak picture- I was early for a meeting one day, so I took this picture of a busker entertaining people enjoying lunch at the market. Seeing this is one of my favourite parts of the heart of London
Nature- I’m really impressed with the way this turned out. This is just one part of the nature path nearby my house. I wish I could post all of my pictures from this day. If I have bad cabin fever, this is where I will go.
Somewhere I went-Some cherry blossoms nearby a statue at the bus stop at my college. Weird to think I won’t be seeing this every day like I have been for the past while, but I do hope to visit from time to time.
A device I own but never use- I have it in my room more as a decoration now than it’s actual purpose as an alarm clock. I just use the one on my phone, and it’s loud bell scares the daylights out of me. On the other hand, maybe this would be useful so I can scare myself into waking up early.
Something that makes me sad- Littering. It’s one of my biggest pet peeves. Not only is it bad for the environment, it looks disgusting and just plain lazy.
Something I have too much of and is taking unnecessary space-This is actually painful for me to say. Anyone who loves me knows I am a pop music enthusiast. 10 years ago, I asked for a CD organizer so I could sort my CDs instead of having a bunch of cases taking up the space. Now? I decided I like having the cases out better, but I’m not sure how much more room my shelf can handle. Yet, I still want more music.
Something I’m borrowing from someone-All of these books belong to my sister. I give them back to her as soon as I’m done, but I also have several books of my own I need to finish. If you are reading this, sister of mine, I swear will give them back!
Something I don’t have much of- A sense that I need to slow down. I feel rushed all the time because I have to meet tight deadlines. Probably why I’ve done so well as a young writer; When I want something, I want it NOW. Not necessarily a bad thing, in my opinion. It’s better to have initiative and do it immediately than wait on it.
A stuffed animal I own- Yoshi is one of my favourite all time video game characters. Knowing this, my mom bought a pink one for me as a get well soon present for my jaw surgery at 17.
Something from my bathroom-Fairy dust. It’s a powder from Lush that makes you sparkle. I barely wear it, except for special occasions. Then again, I earned an award the first night I wore this in public. Maybe fairy dust is all I need in life?
Something sweet- I have an addiction to saltwater taffy. Yet, I’ve barely had any of mine from Christmas. They still taste OK though.
A book I’ve been reading-The Chronicles of Narnia anthology by C.S. Lewis. I’ve had the saga ever since I was about eight, but now I’m taking the time to complete the series. I’ve read “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” before and loved it. I really like this dedication, reminding myself that I’m never too old to read or write fairy tales. I’ve finished this long before I posted this essay, but I still love this dedication.
Something I shouldn’t have bought, but did anyway- I’m a freelance writer who is trying to save some money and get my life together. Did I really need to buy a Gengar just for decoration? Yes. Yes I did.
A souvenir from vacation- Not my own vacation, but my best friend’s trip to Germany and Poland last year. This bracelet, my birthday present, came all the way from Poland. I absolutely love sea-inspired anything for fashion, so this is perfect.
Something that means a lot to me-Friendship. My best friend, along with a couple of other close friends, have been by my side for nearly a decade (poor unfortunate souls in pain, in need). However, some of my close friends I have known for less than five years. Either way, it’s something I value a lot. I’m always willing to help if they’re in need, because it’s the right thing to do and I always appreciate it when someone is supportive of me, no matter how long we’ve been friends for, how far away they are or how different the directions in our lives are.
My handwriting-Something I’ve been asking myself lately. I’m all done school, working on some writing projects and I am trying to decide what my next personal story will be about. So, if you want to know “what’s next for me”, you may have to wait.
Something purple-Black and purple or black and blue? I swear the fabric on this dress is a richer purple than what the photo makes it seem! This is one of my favourite dresses, but the only chance I got to wear it was my cousin’s wedding. It’s part of one of my budget strategies for special occasions; Wait until boxing week, because many NYE dresses will go on sale. I think this was $50-60 originally and I got it with another dress for $25. Both are beautiful, so I think I made the right investment.
Something in my fridge- Yes, I have another food picture. Some leftover pizza from an end of the year party I went to. There were eight pizzas, so we were encouraged to grab some to take home, and there you have it.
Me- A 20-something writer working in my home office, not caring about the mess around me or the fact I’m wearing an old T-shirt, because I’m busy working away at my next project. There’s also a good chance that I’m procrastinating on YouTube. You can’t tell either way with this angle.
